New head node and OS upgrades

On January 19, 2025, the node emerald will become the new head node. Operating systems on all compute nodes will be upgraded to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP6.

User crontab files will be migrated from desert to emerald.

The old headnode desert will keep its operating system SUSE Linux Enterprise High Performance Computing 15 SP4, and will be removed from the cluster in coming weeks.

Auxiliary headnode coral will be removed from the cluster on January 20, 2025.

All local data on compute nodes n[01-36] will be removed during OS upgrades. If you used local data in /var/tmp/ on compute nodes, please copy them before January 18, 2025.

The headnode switch is planned during the weekend January 19-20, 2025. Access to cluster will be limited during OS upgrades.
